Welcome to The Arador Armour Library! Since 1995 Arador has served as a hub for education, information and camaraderie to those in the Internet community with an interest in armour and armour-related subjects.

Introducing Living History Library!

As many people have no doubt noticed based on the huge flood of email I've received since 9/2/05, our Discussion Forums were hacked. The hack was so thorough as to wipe out all members, forums, posts, history and backups. This was a major loss to us, as there had been many fine and thorough posts on our forums thanks to many dedicated and knowledgeable contributors. Alas, its all gone.

Change is inevitable though, and the silver lining to this once dark cloud is the birth of an all-new site, Living History Library. This exciting new site not only discusses the subject of armour, but also historical martial arts, warfare and knighthood, medieval and renaissance culture, and hopefully will even be able to touch on other important subjects that are within the realm of our studies, such as historical clothing, art, literature, etc. By limiting the study of armour strictly to itself, we perpetuate our own 'dark age' of misunderstanding its place and historical context, bringing about the common misconceptions and failures that are so common in the medieval community.

We hope you will enjoy the new site, and will join us once again in the spirit of knowledge, camaraderie and mutual understanding that made Arador our home for so very long.

With many thanks,

“The Churburg Armoury”

Historic Armour and Arms in the Castle of Churburg

So far as I am aware there has never been a publication in which armours of this kind, so well represented at Churburg, have been treated primarily as the works of art that they undoubtedly are. Therefore, this book, which does just that, represents a milestone in the history of armour literature.

Its author, Carlo Paggiarino, has the unique qualifications of being both a brilliant, award-winning, photographer and a passionate lover and collector of armour, and so approaches his subject with a sympathy and understanding that has been denied to previous photographers.

The results speak for themselves and it gives me great pleasure to introduce them to what I hope will be a wide public.
