A study of armour worn by Henry VIII around 1540 revealed by the end of his reign the King’s vital stats were a whopping 52 inch waist and 53 inch chest, pretty amazing considering there were no McDonalds restaurants back then!
Despite his girth during the latter part of his life the young Henry VIII was a very fit 6 ft 1 inch tall courageous jouster with a muscular frame and his more youthful armour indicates a 32 inch waist and 39 inch chest.
He wasn’t a shy man either and allegedly believed he was favored by God and that he would stay youthful forever.
